I sat a Zoom H4N digital recorder at the base of a juniper bush, out of the gentle breeze. Song thrushes, yellowhammers, robins, blackbirds, wood pigeons, pheasants, whitethroats, goldcrests, great tits, long-tailed tits and blackcaps sang. A cuckoo was heard briefly from way over by Selborne Common, and a bird I think was a garden warbler started up towards the end. A nightjar flapped around the chalkpits at one point but was never heard singing.
